Dr. Joseph Dituri, also known as “Dr. Deep Sea”, has just finished an amazing adventure. For 100 days, the University of South Florida teacher lived in a small room underwater.

On 1 March 2023, Dr. Dituri, who’s 55, began the project. His goal was to stay for 100 days at a special underwater hotel. The hotel is 22 feet (6.7 meters) under the ocean surface in a protected area in Key Largo.

While he was living underwater, Dr. Dituri stayed busy. He often exercised in the morning. He kept teaching his college classes, and he had online chats with over 5, 500 students from 15 different countries. Dr. Dituri worked with other marine experts (专家) to think of ways to protect and take care of the ocean.

A number of visitors dived down and spent a little time with Dr. Dituri. He was also regularly checked out by a medical team. Dr. Dituri said what he missed the most when he was underwater was sunshine.

On 9 June 2023, Dr. Dituri was finally able to see the sun again. Many friends, family, and supporters were there to greet him and celebrate his success.

Dr. Dituri was smiling when he came back up. Doctors quickly checked him out to make sure he was okay. Then, Dr. Dituri spoke to the crowd about his 100 days underwater. “The human body has never been underwater that long,” Dr. Dituri said. “This experience has changed me in an important way.”

Actually, Dr. Dituri went through several big changes. For one thing, he became half an inch (1.3 centimeters) shorter during his time in the higher pressure undersea. For another, he was able to sleep much better. Besides, his health greatly improved in a couple of other ways.

Have you ever gotten stung（蛰）by a bee? Well, for 18-year-old Mikaila Ulmer from the US, her first bee sting at the age of 4 was a special experience. It let her make a difference and turned her into an entrepreneur.

The bee sting scared Mikaila but it also made her interested in the insect. She soon learned how important bees are for the planet and how they are at risk（风险）of dying out.

At not even 5 years old Mikaila wanted to do something to help save the bees. With her parents’ help, she set up a lemonade stand in her front yard. She used grandmother’s homemade lemonade recipe（食谱）and added a little bit of honey（蜂蜜）to it. The money from every lemonade she sold went to bee protection groups.

But Mikaila wanted to do more. She made her special recipe into a product, called Me and the Bees Lemonade. At the age of 10, she went on a TV show with her dad to try to get public attention. It worked. Now, she sells her products at restaurants and stores across the country.

In 2020, Mikaila brought out a book about her experience as an entrepreneur called Bee Fearless, Dream Like-a-Kid. She said “it’s important to dream like a kid, and as a kid, it’s the perfect age to start to realize what you enjoy and trying new things and taking risks.”

Qian Xuesen was one of the 1． (great) Chinese scientists of modern times. People call him the “father of China’s space program” for the work he did in helping develop the country’s 2． (one) rockets, missiles(导弹) and satellites. He helped China become a center for technology 3． enter a new space age.

Qian was born in Shanghai in 1911. He went to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and then 4． (take) a scholarship to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) in the USA in 1935, From there, he moved to the California Institute of Technology(Caltech), where he became 5． expert(专家) in aerodynamics(空气动力学) and jet propulsion(喷气推进). One of his university teachers at Caltech described him 6． a genius.

In 1950, he decided 7． (return) to China, but the American government tried to stop him from 8． (leave) and even from moving around freely in California. At last, in 1955, he was able to return to China.

Back home, Qian at once began helping China develop a space program. He started the Institute of Mechanics in Beijing, where he trained young scientists. It is largely because of Qian’s work that China so quickly developed a space program, and became only the third country to send a manned rocket into space in 2003.
