Today is Friday. It’s my mother’s birthday. I make dinner for my mother. I wash my hands in the bathroom. Then I go to the kitchen. I wash potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables. Then I cook them. Oh, I also want to make a cake. Finally, I put them on the table. How nice they are! My mother likes them very much. We are very happy.

A train stops at a station. A young man wants to come out, but it is raining (雨). A boy is standing under a big umbrella. The young man says to the boy. "Can you go and get us two hamburgers, one for you and one for me? Here are two dollars (美元)."

After some time, the boy is back. He is eating a hamburger. "Where is my hamburger?" asks the young man. "Oh, there is only one hamburger left (剩下). So I'm eating mine. Here is your dollar."

One day, an old man went for a walk in a park in Washington, and when he was tired, he sat down on a bench. A young person was standing on the other side. “Look!” the old man said to the person. “Do you see that person with long hair? Is it a boy or a girl?” “A girl,” said his neighbor. “She's my daughter.” “Oh!” the old man said quickly. “Please forgive me; I didn't know you were her mother.” “I'm not,” said the other person, “I’m her father.”

Tom is seven. He goes to school every day. The school is near his home. So he goes there on foot and comes back home on time (准时). But today he is late. His mother asks him, “Why are you late today?” “I was in the teachers’ office.’’ “Why did you go to the teachers’ office?” “Because my teacher asked us a question in class, and nobody (没有人) could answer it, but me.” “It’s good to answer the teacher’s questions.” “But the question was ‘Who put the ink (墨水)on my chair?’”

Today is the first day of school. Some students are waiting for the school bus at the bus stop. They are happy. The first day of school is always a happy day.

A boy says to a girl, “We are always careful. We must (一定) look to the left and right before we cross (横穿) the street.” “You are right. It’s always good to be careful,” says the girl. “Be careful! A bus is coming,” says the boy. “Thanks,” says the girl. “Don’t stand too close to the street while waiting for the bus,” says the boy.

The school bus is coming. The driver says hello to the students. All the students get on the bus and sit down. The driver says, “Please wear your seat belts and always remember (记住) to be safe (安全的) on the way.” They go to school happily.

Hi, my name is Wang Ning. My English name is Lisa. I’m from Shijiazhuang. I have a happy family. There are three people in my family, my father, my mother and me. My father is a teacher. He teaches English in a school. He goes to school by bus. My mother is a doctor. She works in a hospital. She goes to work on foot. Because the hospital is not far from our home. My favourite school work is reading books. Books are my friends, very good friends. This is me, a happy girl.

I am a school boy. I have lessons from Monday to Friday. On Sunday morning, I often get up very late. It’s Sunday today. I wash my face and then go out to do my exercises. It is about nine o’clock. After breakfast, I go to the park with my parents by car. There are many people in the park. Some children are swimming, and some children are going boating with their parents. I like going boating very much. I want to go boating, too. We have a good time there.

My name is Li Lin. I'm eleven. I'm from China. My mum and dad work on a big factory (工厂). They go to work every day, but rest two days a week. I have a sister. We look like each other very much and we like to help each other. She is a middle school (中学) student.

My sister and I are in the same school, but we are in different grades (年级). We have our lessons from eight o’clock in the morning to four o’clock in the afternoon. My English teacher, Miss Green is from the US. She is a good teacher. We have five English classes in a week. Now we can say three hundred words. We like English. We like our English teacher and she likes us, too.

American schools begin in September after a long summer holiday. There are two terms in a school year. The first term is from September to January, and the second term is from February to June. Most American children begin to go to school when they are five years old. Most students are seventeen or eighteen years old when they finish high school. After high school, many students go to college. They can go to a small one or a large one. They usually have to give a lot of money. So many college students work after class to get the money for their studies.

Bob lives far from school. He often gets up early. Sometimes he goes to school by school bus. The bus driver is his uncle. Sometimes his father drives him. Bob likes Wednesday, because he has science class on that day. Science is his favourite subject. After school, Bob often plays with his friends. At five o'clock in the afternoon, he goes home. In the evening, he always reads books in his bedroom. He never watches TV. Then at 9:00 p.m. he goes to bed.
