Anny was 11 years old. One day in her summer holiday, she sat in the garden. She wanted to get some money during the summer vacation. And she had an idea! Many people had dogs. They loved their dogs. But most people were busy with their work. Sometimes they didn’t have the time to walk their dogs.

Anny went to many houses and asked the people if she could walk their dogs. Some of people wanted to walk their dogs themselves, but five people said yes to Anny. She was excited.

Every morning that summer, she walked the dogs. By the end of the vacation, Anny had saved eighty dollars.

Once there was an old man in a town. He always forgot a lot of things. So his wife always said to him, “Don’t forget this.”

One day he went to a big city by himself. Before he left home, his wife said, “Now you have all these things. You need to take care of them on your way.” Then he went to the station and bought a ticket and got on the train with it.

About an hour later, the conductor began to check the tickets. He came to the old man and said, “Will you please show me your ticket?” The old man looked for his ticket in all his pockets but he could not find it. He was very worried. “I can’t find my ticket. I really bought the ticket before I got on the train,” said the old man.

“I think you are right. I believe you bought a ticket. OK, you don’t have to buy another ticket,” said the conductor kindly. But the old man still looked worried and said sadly, “You don’t know why I’m worried. If I can’t find my ticket, I can’t remember my station. Where am I going?”

Most of the salt in our country comes from the sea. People dig great pools and let the sea water in. When the sun dries up the water, people can get salt from the ground.

The salt is white, clean and beautiful. There are a lot of salt wells in Sichuan. A salt well is much like a water well. People bring the well water up to the ground and then dry it in big pans over fire. In this way they get salt.

We can also get salt from salt mines. Some years ago, people in Jiangxi found a big salt mine and soon opened it. People there need no salt from other places now.

In the north of our country, there are many salt lakes. Some of these lakes are very big and can even meet the needs of our people for many years.

Tim’s shoes are so dirty. His mother says to him, “Your shoes are so dirty. You must clean them.” “But I cleaned them yesterday,” says Tim.

“They are dirty now. You must clean them again.”

“I don’t want to clean them today. If I clean them today, they’ll be dirty again tomorrow.”

“All right,” his mother says.

In the afternoon, Tim comes back home from school. He is so hungry. He asks his mother to give him something to eat. “You had breakfast in the morning and you had lunch at noon,” Tim’s mother says.

“But I’m hungry again,” cries Tim.

“Oh, hungry again? But if I give you something to eat today, you will be hungry again tomorrow.”

Tom and Fred are students. They are in the same class in their school. One day，they had a fight in class, and their teacher was very angry. She said to them, “Stay here after school this afternoon, and write your names a hundred times.”

After the last lesson, Tom and Fred stayed in the classroom. They began to write their names in their notebooks.

Fifteen minutes later, the teacher came. Fred was crying. The teacher looked at him and said, “Why are you crying?”

“Because his name is Tom King, and my name is Frederick Hollingsworth,” Fred said with tears in his eyes. “It is too bad that I have a very, very long name.”
