The panda has white body and head, but it has black eyes. They live in China. They live in bamboo forest (森林) in mountains. They can climb trees. They are good climbers. They like eating bamboo. They also eat honey (蜂), eggs and fish. The baby panda is called (称作) a cub. It's cute. There are only more than one thousand wild (野生的) pandas. They need nature parks and protection (保护).

There's a zoo in our city. There are a lot of animals in the zoo. The elephant is very big. We all like to see it, because it’s very cute. The tiger is from the Mountain Changbai of China. It walks around in a room. The lion’s room is next to the tiger’s. The panda in the zoo is a little shy. It’s interesting. It’s eating bamboo(竹子). The giraffe is very fun. We all like animals because they’re our friends. Some boys and girls, men and women often come to the zoo and see them.

Pandas are very lovely. Most pandas live in the west of China. Pandas like eating bamboo best, but they also eat other plants and small animals. They eat for twelve hours a day. They don’t hibernate（冬眠） in winter. They go down the mountains in winter, and go up the mountains in summer. They sleep under the trees. Pandas like drinking water, and they often live near the springs（泉水）. The giant panda is known as a national treasure（国宝） of China. We should protect pandas.

Every kind of animals has their own (自己的) way to live well in winter. In winter, the weather gets colder and colder. There is snow on the ground.

Some animals sleep all the winter. These animals eat lots of food in autumn. In winter, they don’t eat anything. Many birds can’t find food in winter, so they fly from the north to the south in autumn. They go to a warmer place to find food. Then fly back the next spring. Some animals collect enough food in autumn. In winter, they just stay at home and eat the food they collect in autumn. Many animals live in the trees or under the ground because it’s cold outside.

Winter is cold in many countries, but these clever animals can spend it safely.

A foolish dog

A dog has a large piece of meat in his mouth. When he is walking on a small bridge, he looks down and sees himself in the water. He thinks it is another dog. That dog has also a large piece of meat in his mouth. He says to himself: “I want to get his meat, then I have got two pieces of meat.” He opens his mouth to bark the dog in the water, and his meat falls into water.

Elephants can live 50 to 60 years. They are the largest land animals. They can hear and smell very well. They like water very much. They eat a lot one day.

Snakes haven't got legs or feet. They put out their tongues(舌头) to smell the air. They love the sun. They sleep in winter if they live in cold places.

It's Sunday today. Jack and his friends are in the zoo. They see many animals in the zoo. Look! These are pandas. They like bamboo. They are lovely. Believe it or not, pandas eat meat. What are those near the river? They are elephants. They love water. The animals on the grass are snakes. They are sleeping. They like the sun. Look at the monkeys in the tree. How cute they are!

Yesterday Tom went to the park with his parents. He saw many birds there. They looked very happy and sang songs. Tom said to his mother “I think birds don’t like living in a small cage. I will take my bird to the park tomorrow. I’ll open the cage and let it go out to meet its friends. Then it will be happy and sing songs.”

The largest bird

The ostrich（蛇鸟）is the largest bird in the world. They live in North Africa（北非洲）and Australia. An ostrich is very heavy, nearly three hundred pounds. It is about two metres tall. It has strong legs. It can run at 70 kilometres an hour. Its wings are very small, and the feathers（羽毛）are very soft. So it is not able to fly. An ostrich eats a lot and it can eat almost anything in the sand. They can eat those that cannot be eaten by other animals and birds.
