Let’s look at our community (社区).

The bank is next to my house. Our school is next to the bank. There are a lot of teachers and they help us to learn about many subjects. They are very friendly. If I want to read books or surf the Internet (上网冲浪), I can go to the library. It’s on No. 3 Street.

There is also a big supermarket in our community. I can buy a lot of things there. It’s across from the bank and my house. But the post office is far from my home. If I want to post a letter, I have to go along First Street and turn right at the turning. Go along No. 2 Street and turn right again, and the post office is on my left.

It’s a good place to have fun. Welcome to my community.

Everyone has his or her favourite colour. Different (不同的) colours have different meanings (意义). What colour do you like? Blue, black or other colours? For a Chinese girl Meimei, she likes red best. Red is the colour of China. The colour red is fresh (新鲜的), and in China we call it China Red. Chinese people like the colour red for it makes people excited and it has good meaning in Chinese culture (文化). But Meimei’s friend, Nancy, a girl from Canada, likes green. She has many green clothes. Green is the colour of nature (自然). For example, the grass and the leaves on the trees are green. Sometimes, the word green means young, fresh and growing. Green is good for our eyes. It can make people feel relaxed (放松的).

Minions (小黄人) are some small robots. Some have one eye and some have two eyes. Their arms and legs are short, so they look very funny (滑稽). Bananas are their favourite food. Minions are small but they are very smart (聪明). Let’s meet three of them.

Hello! My name is James Brown. I’m 13 years old and I am a student at the National School of Music in Leeds. Classes start at 8:30 every morning and finish at 3:30 in the afternoon. I have many school subjects like English, math science and many other subjects, but music is my favourite one. I really love music.

Christina Turner is my music teacher. She is a very tall woman and a little fat. She has short, curly and brown hair, a big nose and a big mouth. And she wears glasses. She is the nicest person in my eyes. She’s funny and likes telling us stories.

She is always in a good mood (情绪). She teaches different kinds of music. When we need help, she will always be there for us. She is my favourite teacher!
