A restaurant in Hangzhou is popular with old people. The vegetable dishes are priced at 3 yuan and the meat dishes are priced at between 6 and 10 yuan. The food prices are the same as they were in 2007, when the restaurant opened.
More than 6,200 people above the age of 70 live in the neighborhood (社区). Some of them have difficulty in finding a place to eat. People opened the restaurant to solve the problem. Later, the restaurant got more and more popular. At least one hundred customers (顾客) had meals there every day. In 2012, the restaurant started to welcome younger customers. Now, the two groups of people eat in different dining halls. In this way, old people can eat in a comfortable and quiet environment.
Wang Jintu, 84 years old, eats at the restaurant almost every day. “The sanitation conditions (卫生条件) are great. The dishes are cheap and delicious for us,” he said.
“To help old people live a happy life, the first step is to make sure they eat well,” one restaurant worker said.
