In our English class Mr Liu told us 1． (讨论) great books and write a book review of our favourite one. I suppose 2． (几乎) half of the students will take The Adventures of Tom Sawyer as their favourite book. This book describes people’s lives in the southern 3． (州) of America. It tells how young people grow, how people love each other and how bad people 4． (被惩处). The dialogues in the book sound especially real because they are all in 5． (日常的) English.

Tom, the hero of the book, is a poor boy. He doesn’t like people telling him what to do. Tom decides to run away to an island. But a bad man is looking for him. To protect 6． (他自己), Tom and his friend escape and live in a cave, nothing to eat except some 7． (玉米). Not seeing them for a time, the neighbours think they are 8． (失踪的) or dead. However, at their funeral, people are surprised to find they are still alive.

To be 9． (老实的), its writer Mark Twain is my favourite foreign writer. He is not only a well-known writer but also a wise thinker. His ideas still make sense today and 10． (影响) many people all over the world. By the way,Mark Twain is famous for his humour in writing.
