I’ve been in Japan for almost five years. I would like to share some customs of this country 1． you.

When you are invited to a Japanese home, you are 2． to take chocolates or flowers. Usually, you don’t need to take wine except when you visit a very close friend.

If the invitation says eight o’clock, then you should arrive exactly 3． eight. As soon as the guests arrive, they will be offered something to 4． such as tea, coffee, or perhaps just water. Japanese people think it is polite to accept a drink even if you 5． not thirsty. If you visit someone, you should always stay for a few drinks. When you have had enough to drink, you tap on your cup or put 6． hand over it. If you say “no”, the host will suggest having another cup to drink.

People’s private life is very important, so Japanese people 7． ask you personal questions. Usually the dialogues are about safe topics 8． the weather, films, plays, books and restaurants.

It’s difficult to know when to leave, 9． an evening meal usually lasts about three or four hours. When the host serves coffee, this is sometimes a sign 10． the evening is nearly over, but you can still have as much coffee as you want.
